A new western Turkish ruler?
Lot 775
HUNNIC TRIBES, Western Turks. Uncertain. Drachm (Silver, 27 mm, 2.29 g, 4 h), circa 650-700. Bust of King facing, head turned slightly to right, draped and wearing crown with lion's head or senmurv's head to right between wings and with two ribbons emerging from his right shoulder; in upper field to left, countermark with senmurv; to right, legend in Brahmi. Rev. Fire altar with two attendants. Apparently unpublished and of great interest. Broken and glued, otherwise, good fine.

From a collection of coins from Central Asia.

The portrait on this enigmatic Western Turkish coin bears some similarity to that of Sri Ranaskari (Vondrovec, Type 254). However, as the crown and the partly illegible legend differ quite significantly, it is possible that the coin was issued by a hitherto unknown ruler.
